Bering Yachts: Supporting an International Initiative

Bering Yachts founder Alexei Mikhailov has been always searching for a purpose. Whether it was building his own yachts when he could not find any that would fully satisfy him, cultivating a company that became a trendsetter in making steel exploration boats, or finding the type of activity that would allow Bering yachts to fully reach their potential. Here comes another page of this search: participation in a global initiative to protect 30% of Earth’s land and sea by 2030.

To do so, Bering Yachts has embarked on a partnership with Yachts for Science, an organization whose name speaks for itself. Connecting yacht owners and crews with the researchers, marine scientists, and content producers for good purpose temporarily took B92 Papillon away from the charter program and brought her to Silver Bank. Braving the 25-knot winds, she has been carrying 13 people on board, including scientists, filmmakers, and Bering employees, on a truly scientific expedition under the auspices of the Government of Dominican Republic – with Mikhailov participating in and certainly enjoying the process.

“I am trying to experience what the owner of the boat, a guest, or a passenger would feel if he or she participated in an expedition like this, when your voyage has a mission, a purpose, and you are learning something. For me it was a very dense learning experience… best time you can spend on a boat, very meaningful and interesting.” – described Bering Yachts founder his efforts to create a unique program that would give Bering owners something to enjoy and fully use the exploration capacities of our boats.

Sometimes when you possess a boat like Bering, you might have difficulties choosing the destination or offering itineraries for charter clients. A program like this will definitely add something special to your planning. Silver Bank, a location where about 3,000 humpback whales come to mate annually, is protected by the Dominican Republic, and only about 500 people can visit it any given year. What can be more exciting than serving the good cause and going on a trip of a lifetime?

All the details of this trip will soon be presented in a video on our YouTube channel. Please follow us to not miss this presentation!

We would like to thank governmental entities and international and other organizations who were instrumental in this collaborative effort:  Government of the Dominican Republic, Mission Blue, Blue Marine Foundation, Blue Nature Alliance, Wyss Foundation, and Caribbean Cetacean Society. Bering Yachts’ participation was eventualized through the Yachts for Science initiative, made possible by the Ocean Family Foundation, BOAT International, Nekton, EYOS, and others.
