Bering 78 Successfully Launched: A New Milestone for Explorer Yachts

Bering Yachts has reached another important milestone with the successful launch of the Bering 78, a 23.85-meter shallow-draft steel explorer yacht that combines serious ocean capability with refined comfort and style.

Powered by twin Cummins QSB 9.9 engines (335 HP each), the B78 achieves a comfortable cruising speed of 8 knots and a top speed of 10 knots. With a range exceeding 3,000 nautical miles at cruising speed and a fuel-efficient displacement hull, she is designed for genuine long-distance autonomy while drawing only 1.45 meters — allowing access to shallow anchorages and coastal hideaways that most yachts of this class cannot reach.

The vessel’s most distinctive external feature is its reverse-raked bow — a rare design choice at this size. By slicing through waves instead of rising over them, the hull significantly reduces pitching motion, delivering a noticeably smoother ride in open water.

Inside, the B78 offers generous volume and high-quality finishes for up to 6 guests and 2 crew. The interior combines warm teak accents, oak furnishings, and contemporary styling, creating an atmosphere of understated luxury. The layout provides flexibility for personalization, with expanded cabins, service areas, and living spaces that feel far larger than the yacht’s compact 24-meter length suggests.

During the launch ceremony, owner Paul Kinkley joined the Bering team dockside for a proud and emotional moment. In a recent in-depth interview with Bering founder Alexei Mikhailov (watch the full conversation here), Paul shared the story behind the yacht’s name, his decision to choose the shallow-draft version, and how the B78 perfectly matches his vision of safe, comfortable, and independent family cruising.

Alexei Mikhailov commented:

“The Bering 78 proves that you don’t need a very large yacht to enjoy real explorer capability, serious range, and genuine comfort. She is built to take owners anywhere — from shallow bays to open ocean — with confidence and style.”

A full launch-day video, including dockside conversations, reflections, and detailed walkthrough footage, will be released on the Bering Yachts YouTube channel this Sunday.

The Bering 78 is the latest example of Bering’s philosophy: build compact, capable explorer yachts that deliver superyacht-level comfort and customization within the 24-meter limit — without compromise.
